New guests, new possibilities

Hi!

We have reached thursday which means it's time for new fishing guests to visit us. In fact, this weekend all boats are rented. We are looking forward to get catch reports from our 10 groups of fishermen who arrives today, with 4 more companies coming later this week.

Catching reports has been few last couple of days. I went out for a short session a few days ago, resulting in 9 pikes in a little more than 3 hours. No sizes to talk about though, but a few nice slack line strikes while fishing with softbaits.

I'll be back with reports from our guests during the upcoming days...

It's about finding the key

Hi everyone!

As we read sunday in our calendars, another week has come to its end. 8 boats has been out on the water this week from our campsite, including guests from Denmark, Germany, Sweden and Poland.

For me it has been a week full of work assignments. 4 guidings in the last 7 days with mostly Swedish guests but also with the national team of Russia in badminton. One of the lads in the Russian company managed to break his own personal best from about 2,5kg to around the 7kg barrier. Happy faces and for sure a nice, superfat fish!

But, to be honest, fishing has been though last couple of days for most guests. But, as with all fishing, It's all about finding the key! What I mean with this is simple. You can't just go to a hotspot and expect to catch loads of pikes. Even if there is pikes nearby, it doesen't mean that they will strike your baits as soon as they are pulled in front of their faces. You have to find out what they might find acceptable to digest for the minute.

To state an example, this week has been bad for those who tried their skills with jerkbaits. Especially the bigger sizes of jerkbaits. On the other hand, small jigs and other softbaits has been succesfull. Many pikes are just standing at the bottom of shallow areas and will not raise to take surface baits at the moment.

When finding the key of the day, you will open many doors. But if you struggle, and trying wrong type of keys, you will surely not be succesfull out there.

Before ending this post, I have to answer a question I get asked almost every day. Are the pikes spawning right now? Well my answer is yes, they do! But keep in mind, not all pikes are spawning at the same time, and with water temperature of 8 degrees many pikes will for sure wait a couple of days..

Stay well!

Where did the time go?

Hi everyone!

Time is flying by, and it's has been a few days since last post. So what has happened since?

Well, we've had better weeks when it comes to catch reports, that's for sure. Wheather has been terrible last days, with mostly 0-3m/s winds and variating sun/rain. This is definitely affecting the pikes, who are standing and beeing very inactive at the moment. Lots of pikes are just standing on the bottom and a few of them are following the lures, and even less are actually hunting for food.

But, as many of you know, this situation could change totally from one day to the other. And a few big pikes are still caught every now and then. Yesterday I got information about a +7kg fish, probably around the meter, caught just a couple of days ago in one of the nearby bays.

Tomorrow I will be out guiding, and almost all boats are rented by fishermen. Hopefully we will recieve some nice catch reports soon with skilled fishermens around the campsite! :)

As you can see on the picture below, we are filming with our Go Pro's, but no really good material has been previewed so far so stay patient.

Have a nice weekend!

Stock is now updated!

We've now got delivery from our companion BIOS! Plenty of Hitman, Pikeflies and Vicar lures are now available at the reception in many colours.

Unfortunately, our best selling Hitman in colour "Red Burbot" is sold out at the wholesaler. Therefore, I recomend guests who want to buy this colour to visit any internet saler to order it. It is for sure a killer in our archipelago, and it's popularity is growing for every year. We apologize this matter and will make a new order next time it's back in stock.

Hotpike - New colour available in the reception!

A windy easter

Hi folks!

We are now writing saturday and easter celebration is obvious around the campsite. Many families are visiting us to celebrate this holiday at the moment, eating lots of flavoured herring, potatoes, meatballs, varities of sausage and so on.

Of course we also have groups of fishermen here as well, fighting hard with daily changing wind prognoses. Yesterday we had about 10m/s southwest winds, and today really strong and cold north winds up to 14m/s. Some of our guests seem to have been succesfull earlier in the week though. Triple-strikes are rare, but happens a few times and so it did this week for a group of returning Swedish guests who are here for 5-days fishing.

I've also got reports about a few caught fish around the meter in size, by guests on our campsite. Winds are for sure playing with the pikes behavior, and todays north winds is not really helping out since it makes the water brown as chocolate milk. Nothing is impossible though, and winds are calming down a bit as well.

Hopefully we can look forward to a strong ending of the week with plenty big fish on photos and then released back!

Best regards,

Daniel Wickman

Season begins tomorrow!

Hi fishing buds!

I hope you all are doing well and by this blogpost, we are now opening Camp Dragsö Sportfishing for spring season 2012! Most boats are in the water and ready to call the boats inside.

Our first fishing companies arrives tomorrow and of course both we and our guests are loaded to the limits with expectations of the upcoming months. To tease you a bit more; I have heard both rumours and confirmed catches in the past weeks of some spectacular fish. In the end of Mars, at least 4 pikes were caught in the nearby area with weights over 10 kilos (Guaranteed over 100cm).

Furthermore, we have introduced a plus package to this season. This means, for a small extra fee, you have now the opportunity to book a Master boat with a larger engine. Instead of the regular 25hp engine you'll get at least a 40hp engine. More information about this on our website..

The past days air temperature has dropped a lot, with minus degrees once again at night time. In my theory, this might delay spawning a few days more. Yesterday I went out for a short 2 hour session on my own, which resulted in 9 pikes. All off them were standing in 0,5-2m of depth and they all were fat as hell! Most of them did carry some lice as well, which indicates that they are standing very still at the moment. I guess they're waiting for warmer water temperature to start spawning and moving.

More reports to follow soon!

Yours sincerely,

Daniel Wickman
